Fascinated by the changing shapes and colors of the moving formations of clouds in azure skies.
I grew up near the Ohio shores of Lake Erie and spent delightful days on its islands and in the forested lands of Central Pennsylvania. My earliest memory is of shifting light and color as it danced through gliding motes of dust. Then, as I grew, I was mesmerized by the stained glass windows of my church with its colors, patterns and light. I would lie on the grass intrigued by the shifting texture of the underside of the silver maple leaves as they lifted in the breeze. I was fascinated by the changing shapes and colors of the moving formations of clouds in azure skies. I was enthralled by the variations of color and texture and play of light on the waters and in the trees and mountain sides and sensed that there was a glory beyond them and greater than them all.
Since those days, I have served as an art teacher, a freelance designer and a home educator. Today, I focus on painting with acrylics and working with mixed media and monoprints. Although I have a degree in art education, as a painter, I am primarily self-taught and hugely grateful for the generosity of artists who write, instruct and share their art via the internet. (Thank you Brian Rutenberg, Nicholas Wilton, Pamela Caughey and Jane Davies, among many others.)
Nature continues to captivate me and the search for the play between color, texture, pattern and light is ongoing. Many paintings intuitively develop after a reflective time spent with the life-giving words found in the writings of fellow pilgrims who have gone before me and in Scripture.
I cherish truth, goodness and beauty and find it most deeply in Jesus Christ. It is my hope that as you spend time with my art, you’ll be encouraged and uplifted along your way.
